This past Friday, October 21st, the ACU hosted a fundraiser for the Catholic Gators. We were pleased to welcome Fr. David Ruchinski, Fernando Chang, and Joseph West. Fr. David has graciously opened the doors of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Gainesville, which is home to the Catholic Gators ministry at the University of Florida. With Fr. David's gracious welcome and trust, the ACU is collaborating with the Catholic Gators ministry to provide formation in Ignatian Spirituality for the men's group with plans to offer the Spiritual Exercises and mentorship. Fernando Chang is the development director for the Catholic Gators and Joseph West is the campus minister; both men are alumni of the University. Andres Manrara leads the effort on behalf of the ACU. On Friday night, Ignacio Abella took the lead to welcome the Catholic Gators to the larger ACU community in Miami and assist in raising funds for that ministry.

Fr. Dave Ruchinski from the University of Florida speaks to us about the things that can help us relate to our Lord, Jesus. We may think that we do not share in his life, but our Lord is so generous that he wanted to be fully like us.

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Saint Teresa de Jesus (Avila), Virgin and Doctor of the Church. Anyone that did Spiritual Exercises with Fr. Amando Llorente will know that she was, most certainly, his favorite Saint, excepting the Immaculate Virgin Mary and St. Ignatius of Loyola of course, the two Patron Saints of the ACU. It is the first Classic ACU homily we have released this liturgical year, soon coming to an end, in which Fr. Llorente extends his preaching beyond his own self-imposed 20 minutes. It is wonderful.
Our Lady is the Patroness of so many Latin American cultures. As Columbus Day passes, we often overlook the importance of the faith being planted in the Americas as well. To this day we see the great impact our faith, and more specifically Our Lady, has had on the culture of the Americas.
Today, October 13, 2022, is the 105th Anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, the sign that Mama Mary promised at Cova da Iria, Fatima so "all should believe." Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
