Abolition of the Death Penalty
We pray that the death penalty, which attacks the dignity of the human person, may be legally abolished in every country.
To kick off the fall semester, Julio Villafane made a presentation to the students drawing on his life experiences on what is meant by Ad Majored Dei Gloria and being Contemplative in Action.
The students voted to review during this academic year a book titled Be A Man! Becoming the Man God Created You To Be, written by Father Larry Richards. The book appropriately enough starts by citing 1 Kings 2:2 “Take courage and be a man”, in Latin, Esto Vir, ACU’s motto.
The ACU is hosting a watch party at the Miami Chapter House on September 10th, 2022. Doors open at 5:30 PM and the game kicks off at 7:00 PM.
We cannot be okay with complacency in our lives, even when we are doing good things. When Jesus was doing good works, he knew he had to leave that town and move on to continue his mission. Ignatian indifference can become a valuable tool for us to use to fight off the temptation of complacency.
Fr. Joseph Hill tells us a bit about what inspired him to become a Jesuit Priest. Why are you called to your vocation?
This past Saturday, August 27th, the Miami Chapter hosted Guardia Sabatina following the summer hiatus. Fr. Christian Saenz celebrated Mass and then Efrain Zabala led a presentation updating the Agrupados on the work of the Canonization Commission, particularly his trip to Spain over the summer to meet with family members, Jesuits, and other influential personnel to promote the cause for both Frs. Rey de Castro and Llorente. The Miami Chapter is grateful to Carliton Bravo, Sergio Rodriguez, and Eduardo Gonzalez del Valle for leading the effort of revitalizing the Guardia Sabatina. The next Guardia Sabatina is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Mark your calendars!
Led by Andres Manrara, Gerry Portela, and Jay Velasco, the ACU kicked off its second year of support for the men's group of Catholic Gators at St. Augustine Catholic Church and Student Center of the University of Florida in Gainesville. Approximately 85 young men gathered last Thursday, August 25th to launch this academic year. The meeting was part of an entire week of activities hosted by the Cathoic Gators, known as Blast Off week, to invite all students into community and ministry at Catholic Gators. The men's group was also the first of eight monthly meetings planned by Gerry Portela on Ignatian Spirituality. In addition to ministry support, the ACU provided 200 T-shirts for the men and women of Catholic Gators. We are extremely grateful to Andres, Gerry, and Jay for their presence last week. Andres and Gerry are leading this effort at UF and have gathered a team of Agrupados to assist them. We are excited to provide support in formation, and in particular, the area of Ignatian Spirituality. As the Spirit continues to open doors for the fulfillment of our Mission, may the Lord also inspire us to carry through.
Our Lord will always recognize us, even if we do not know him. When we do see Jesus, we must allow his impression on our hearts to change our lives. We must keep our eyes and hearts open to see the moments where Christ is. If we do not see Jesus, what else are we missing?
Many of you may already be aware that the Our Lady of Belen Chapel has been booked for numerous weddings well into 2023. Those engaged couples need to complete the Fully Engaged marriage preparation course that is offered in the Archdiocese.
