Presentation on the History of Catholicism in South Florida and the establishment of Gesu Catholic Church

Fr. Eddy Alvarez, S.J., pastor of Gesu Catholic Church in downtown Miami, will give a presentation Saturday, November 7, on the history of Catholicism in South Florida and the establishment of Gesu Catholic Church. The presentation will be in English. Many of you know that Gesu is the oldest Catholic church in Miami; It was built in 1896 and was served by the New Orleans Mission of the Society of Jesus. The history of this beautiful Church is intrinsically tied to the history of the Catholic faith in Miami. It was added to the US National Register of Historic Places on July 18, 1974. Everyone is invited and the event is free. Fr. Eddy has served as Gesu pastor for 17 years and has a deep understanding of the importance this church has had in the city of Miami.
