Esto Vir Group: Miami Chapter

This past Friday night, May 6, 2022, members of the Esto Vir Group traveled to Aventura to see the film Fr. Stu, starring Mark Wahlberg. Picture from left to right are Oscar Miñoso-Rendon, junior, Michael Martelly, senior, Henry Amador, sophomore, Alexander Sanches, junior, and Lucas Jimenez, junior. The group traveled together to see the film and then had dinner to discuss their impressions of the movie.

The movie is based on the true story of boxer-turned-Catholic priest Fr. Stuart Long (1963–2014), who suffered from inclusion body myositis. Stuart Long's parents separated when he was a young boy following the untimely death of his younger brother. He was raised agnostic. Stuart takes up boxing and finds success in the amateur circuit, but never advances into the professional arena. Faced with an injured and aged body, Stuart moved to Los Angeles to find money and fame. While working as a supermarket clerk, he meets Carmen, a Sunday school teacher and devout Catholic who seems immune to his romantic advances. Determined to win her over, he starts going to church to impress her. He begins to experience a conversion and following a serious motorcycle accident, he is given a second chance.
