Los Avanzados at the University of Florida
This past Thursday, March 31, Andres Manrara, Gerry Portela, and Jay Velasco traveled to the University of Florida to participate in a special CoEd event with the Catholic Gators. This special event is held every academic year at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Gainesville to focus on developing everyday life skills. The students that participated in the event rotated through various stations to learn different skills. Nearly 90 students participated in the event; and it was evenly split by gender. Some are basic, such as cooking and gardening, and some are more involved, such as maintaining a vehicle. The ACU set up a station on performing the daily Examen as a crucial everyday skill to develop and practice. Gerry Portela led the small groups of students through a standard Examen and gave pointers on making the Examen a habitual practice.
