ACU University of Miami student group meeting 100% on Zoom Last Weekend
Last Sunday’s ACU University of Miami student group meeting was reduced to 100% virtual as a result of an outbreak of COVID cases at the university. All gatherings, with a few exceptions, are currently suspended. Normally, the meetings are held in-person with some joining in on Zoom. The virtual capability allows recent graduates to continue to participate remotely. Also, students that test positive for the virus, are quarantining, or for other reasons are not able to participate in-person are able to participate remotely, as necessary.
At our meeting, Cesar Guerrero, the new Miami Chapter President, spoke about having a personal relationship with Jesus. His talk was titled: “A friendship like no other, a friendship with God”.
On a related note, the school lockdown affected our recent Aspirant promise Mass (Pase de Aspirantes) as UM students were precluded from being at the ACU House. The Mass went on as scheduled. However, only five recent graduates attended as they were not affected by the school’s restrictions. A sixth young man, a UM junior and Belen alum, elected to participate in the Mass remotely and made his Aspirant promise on Zoom —a first for us.
Once the lockdown restrictions lapse, the rest of the candidates will be invited to make their Aspirant promise during our regular Wednesday Guardia Masses.
