University of Miami Student Group
Being Men For Others was the subject of a presentation made by new Congregant David Pernia at a recent meeting of the student group. The phrase is attributable to Pedro Arrupe who served the Superior General of the Society of Jesus. It originated in a speech he gave in 1973 to alumni of Jesuit schools in Europe. Arrupe said that a man should “give himself to others in love—love, which is his definitive and all-embracing dimension, that which gives meaning to all his other dimensions.” David spoke about the various ways the students could meet the challenge of being Men For Others.
New Congregant Sean Festa also made a presentation. He spoke about the Spiritual Exercises. His talk was from the perspective of how they are a lifelong-development tool as presented in a chapter of a book titled Heroic Leadership. Sean also went over some of the reasons why the Spiritual Exercises are an essential part of the ACU.
Both David and Sean became Congregants during the 90th Anniversary Mass at Gesu last December. David is a senior at Florida International University majoring in business management and lives at the UCatholic ACU Student Residence. Sean is a Junior the University of Miami and is majoring in architecture.
