University of Miami Student Group
Last Sunday, UM alumnus and cardiologist Armando Garcia, M.D., spoke to the students. His presentation was titled: “Living your consecration to our Blessed Mother through your profession”. He discussed pro-life issues, which often come up in the medical profession, but also encouraged the students, as future professionals, to firmly uphold Catholic values in their future workplaces.
Colin Ruzella, a senior from Chicago who serves as the group’s President, reviewed with the group the Principle and Foundation. Although the material was covered last year, Postulants like Colin take turns presenting on basic teachings of Ignatian Spirituality. This serves to refresh the presenter and other current Postulants on the material, plus it’s a way to deliver formation to the new students through their more knowledgeable peers.
Nathan Bonet, a sophomore and industrial engineering major (and our National President Luis Sanchez, DMD’s nephew) also made a presentation. It was based on a chapter in the book, The Catholic Gentleman, on courtesy. The chapter can be summarized as courtesy is “love in little things”, and “thinking of others before oneself”.
Next Saturday Father Christian Saenz, S.J. will be leading the group on a day of reflection while hiking some nature trails in Key Biscayne.
