UF Student Group Update: April 11th
The ACU Atlanta led the ACU Apostolate with the Catholic Gators at the UF Catholic Center last week. José Acosta and Jesús León traveled from Atlanta to Gainesville Florida on Thursday, April 7, to participate in this apostolate. While there José and Jesús met with Father David Ruchinski and Joseph West; Father Ruchinski is the Pastor of St. Augustine Church and Chaplain of the Catholic Center; Joseph West is one of two campus minister at the Catholic Gators Center. José and Jesús also met several student leaders and a number of students who participate in the Catholic Gators Center regularly.
After Eucharistic Adoration and Mass, José and Jesús actively participated in the Men’s Group meeting on Thursday night where there were 37 men attending. José gave a short introduction about the ACU: its foundation, history, mission and chapters of the ACU in the USA; José continued by sharing his personal experience in the ACU with his participation in the Washington DC and Atlanta ACU Chapters.
Jesús then gave a presentation in two parts: the first part was a brief introduction to St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises; the second part was a summary of the Preamble of the Exercises, Principle and Foundation (P&F). In addition to summarizing the key points of Principle and Foundation, Jesús shared as an example the life of Abraham, and followed this with a brief witness about how P&F had helped him make decisions in his life.
After the presentations, several men students spoke with José and Jesús, asking questions and exploring with them points given during the talks. José and Jesús told Joseph West that the men’s community at the meeting was extraordinary, with clearly committed, strong Catholic men. José and Jesús believe this is an excellent apostolate for the ACU.
