Puente Sobre el Rio Zaza
Congregante Frank Salas, was recently selected by the Department of Civil Engineering at the Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara, known as ITESO (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente) to lead a series of presentations entitled Viernes de Ingeneria (Engineering Fridays). ITESO was founded in 1957 and has approximately 10,000 enrolled students. Last week, Frank led a discussion on the bridge constructed over the Zaza River in Cuba. The bridge was completed in 5 months in 1959 and was the first ever segmental post-tensioned bridge in the world. The effort was led by the engineering firm Maria G. Suarez y Arango y Salas, all three were Agrupados. They were joined in their efforts by Alfredo Fernandez, also an Agrupado. The bridge over the Zaza River was just one of a series of bridges that the firm built utilizing the design-build approach. You can view Frank Salas' presentation via this link: Puente Zaza
