Passing of Rafael Consuegra

Passing of Rafael Consuegra

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of Rafael Consuegra, the sculptor whose works adorned the JPII campus of the ACU and whose works were soon to embellish the ACU House.

Rafael Consuegra's most notable work at the ACU was St. Peter the Fishermen, an imposing and inspiring iron sculpture depicting St. Peter casting his net into the bay. All of us who stood under it not only stood in awe of its beauty and size, but also experienced the desire to be caught up within the net and brought to shore to rest with our Lord. Consuegra's work can be found throughout Miami-Dade County, the U.S., and even in other countries. He was a prolific sculptor. He made the "Giants of Belen," which are the iron sculptures depicting men competing in various sports and found at the campus of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami.

Please keep Rafael Consuegra's family in your prayers as they adjust to his unexpected loss. May the Lord bring them peace and understanding. At this time, we do not have information on funeral services, but will forward that information once it is made available to us.
