Congregante Isidoro Garcia (1937-2021)

Isidoro died peacefully at home, after many years with Parkinson, of natural causes this past August 19 in the presence of his wife of 56 years and other family members. . 

Isidoro was born and raised in Matanzas, Cuba.

He joined the ACU when he came to Havana and started studying chemical engineering at the Villanova University there.  He made his Congregante consecration in the late 1950’s in Havana before Immigrating to the USA in 1961. Upon arrival, went to Philadelphia where he continued and completed his studies at the Villanova University there. Upon graduation, he accepted a job offer at American Cyanamid in Bound Brook, NJ. Bought a home there and lived in it for the next 50 years.

Isidoro was an exemplary Congregante. It is worthwhile describing his ACU activities as well as his apostolate work in both his parish and his diocese.

Highlights of his ACU activities include:

1] Attending the annual ACU retreats directed by Father Llorente. He was a regular participant and therefore attended more than 35 of the ACU retreats directed by Father Llorente

2] Founding member of the NJ Cana group in 1966. Isidoro and wife, Maria del Carmen “Nina” Armada, were regular group participants during the 1966 – 2001 time period.  

3] Needless to say, Isidoro attended many more of the other ACU activities in the area over the years.

Highlights of his Parish [St. Joseph R.C. church] activities include:

1] Director of the Spanish-language First Communion preparation program during for more than 20 years. Isidoro single-handed instructed 20 to 30 Hispanic children and directed their First Communion ceremony.  

2] Eucharistic Minister, member of the first Parish Council, and organizer of trips for the March for Life in Washington, DC.

Highlights of his Diocesan activities include:

1] Very active in Pro-Life causes including coordinating his County’s Life Chain.

Diocese of Metuchen recognized him on three separate occasions. He was awarded the Regina Nostra Medal; the Pro-Vita award and the Diocesan Catechetical award.

The Diocesan Vicar General upon hearing of his death wrote the following: “Isidoro was a great force for good, for marriage and family. He ws a true son of the Church. “

Isidoro has now joined the members of the ACU Triumphant.  May he rest in peace.
