We pause, for this week only, our now customary weekly distribution of Fr. Amando Llorente’s homilies tin order to bring you an overdue homage to his predecessor, the founder of the ACU, Fr. Felipe Rey de Castro, SJ. Regrettably, it wasn’t until some days after we celebrated the 70th Anniversary of his passing to the Agrupacion Triumphant that we came across a “jewel" in the ACU archives — a small black album (now on display in the ACU Library) full of articles that appeared in Cuba’s newspapers just after his death on February 12, 1952 and soon thereafter. We have translated the articles into English to reach the widest possible audience. A version in the original Spanish will be prepared at a later date. It is a complete 24-page document because it is important to convey the wide esteem shared by many for this man of extraordinary virtue and fame of sanctity. We have taken the liberty of bolding phrases, sentences, or whole paragraphs that capture the essence of Fr. Rey de Castro. We hope you enjoy it.
