Canonization Commission Update
Last week the Canonization Commission, headed by Efrain Zabala, was busy gathering testimony to advance the causes of canonization of Father Felipe Rey de Castro, S.J. and Father Amando Llorente, S.J. Video testimony was gathered from Fathers Marcelino Garcia, S.J., Pedro Cartaya, S.J., and Eduardo Alvarez, S.J.(all Agrupados) who had the good fortune of knowing Father Llorente very well.
Father Sergio Figueredo, S.J. who will soon turn 90 years of age and is blessed with a photographic memory recited voluminous details regarding the founding of the ACU and the life of Father Rey de Castro, S.J. which at the inception of the ACU were closely intertwined.
Father Figueredo and Father Alvarez along with three other Jesuits serve the faithful at Gesu Church in downtown Miami. Father Garcia is the Director of Casa Manresa, the Jesuit retreat house located in western Miami-Dade County. Father Cartaya is the Director of Belen Jesuit High School’s observatory, serves as the Alumni Association Chaplain, and is a Retreat Master.
