Passing of Fr. Rafael Juantorena, SJ
On Saturday, September 17, 2022, Congregante, Fr. Rafael Juantorena, S.J., passed away in Baton Rouge, LA, after battling various health complications. Fr. Rafael Juantorena was a member of the Washington, D.C., Chapter, where he found his vocation to the Jesuits and the priesthood. He passed to Congregante on December 10, 1994. He was ordained to the priesthood in June 1998. Fr. Juantorena was born in Cuba, completed most of his education in Puerto Rico, and received a doctorate in chemical engineering from LSU in 1973. He spent some time working in the petro-chemical industry before discerning a vocation to the Jesuits. Fr. Juantorena's ministry was dedicated to the hispanic apostolate. Most of his service took place in the New Orleans area where he began his service at St. Louis King of France Parish. He was a consistent presence at the ACU throughout its Chapters assisting the ACU in a variety of ways from directing the Spiritual Exercises, celebrating Mass, hearing Confession, Circulos, and spiritual direction. Let us pray for the eternal repose of his soul.
